BALDWIN GUITAR

In 1965 this Ohio-based specialist maker of pianos and organs bought the Burns company of England for $250,000. After Baldwin took control there were 1954 "transition" examples; a few guitars even carried both Burns and Baldwin brands. In 1966 the existing Nu-Sonic, 6865, and C866 models were dropped and various changes made.  Most significant was a new "flattened-scroll” headstock, replacing the original Burns type n most models. The Baby Bison and Vibraslim were redesigned with a new, short Rezotube vibrato. ln 1967 Baldwin introduced the Gibson 335-Iike 700 series, with Italian-made bodies. In 1970 Baldwin discontinued Burns production, concentrating its efforts on Gretsch, which it had acquired in 1967.
