Joseph Bohmann was born In Neumarkt Bohemia (now the Czech Republic), in 1848 He Immigrated to ChIcago and established American Musrcal Industry In 1878, becoming an early supplier to Sears. His labels styled him the “World' 5 Greatest Instrument Maker,” a boast backed up by wms In eIght International competitions between 1888 and 1904. He offered twelve models of guitar. which were noted for playability and tone, as well as strength. Harp guitars were a speculty; he produced many designs, some featuring sympathetic strings mounted inside the body and tuned from the outside.
