BOND GUITAR

Bond was established in Inverness, Scotland, by guitar maker Andrew Bond. Its Electraglide guitar was launched in 1984. Where a normal guitar fingerboard has a row of frets, the Electraglide had a one-piece aluminum "pitchboard," with a step and gentle incline between each “fret” position. Composite plastic materials were used for most of the Instrument, and touch-switches, color-coded LEDs, and digital read-outs replaced control knobs The Inst ument looked futuristic, but in many ways it merely underlined the strengths of traditional guitar desrgn Bond collapsed during 1985 having made around 1,400 guitars. Players had generally been unwilling to adapt to the guitar's idiosyncrasies, although enthusiasts included Mick Jones, The Edge, and Dave Stewart.
